After the remains of thousands of formerly enslaved Africans are uncovered on the remote island of St. Helena, Annina van Neel embarks on a mission to reclaim its neglected history.
I designed the title and graphics for the feature documentary film “A Story of Bones”. The primary goal was to develop a consistent typographic system that ensures design elements flow cohesively throughout the film.
The documentary's production spanned five years, during which many elements evolved—including the film's direction, which shifted throughout the editing process.
While the final design was simplified, the core concept and key aspects remained consistent with the initial design.
Grid
To unify the visual elements of the caption, map, infographics, and title design, I incorporated a subtle latitude and longitude grid as a background texture. This enhancement adds sophistication to the design while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

These are early design development for Title Design, Maps and Captions.
Design Explorations
This video showcases various design explorations, from initial development and experimentation through to alternative designs that were ultimately not used.
