It tells the story of Annina van Neel as she works to reclaim the neglected history of St. Helena after the remains of thousands of formerly enslaved Africans are uncovered on the remote island.
I designed the title and graphics for the feature documentary film “A Story of Bones”. The primary goal was to develop a consistent typographic system that ensures the cohesion of design elements throughout the film.
It took about five years to make the documentary, and many things changed during that time - including the direction of the film, which evolved as the editing process progressed.
Ultimately, the final design became much simpler, but the core concept and other aspects remained the same as the initial design.
Grid
In order to unify the visual elements of the caption, map, infographics, and title design, I incorporated a subtle latitude and longitude grid as a background texture. This addition will elevate the design by adding a level of sophistication while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
